Kush Kuntry Handwoven Designs
The other "criative" side of our business takes place in our home weaving studio. We now have two fully functioning weaving studios at Kush Kuntry. Weaving and building cloth is my passion and I am glad to produce a commissioned one-of-a-kind handwoven piece, a series of 3, or a production run of more.
Breeders, have you considered selling handwoven items as a way to promote your herd, generate more income, and have something done with that beautiful fleece? In most cases, designs shown on our web site have been woven from fiber shorn at local farms.
We are happy to use yarns spun from your herd, ours, or from our inventory of commercially spun import yarns. We offer an extensive inventory of commercially spun natural, dyed and blended alpaca yarns for anyone wishing to have their own wearable alpaca heirloom.
Our oldest daughter, Suzanne has been preoccupied in starting a family these past few years. She and Andrew have blessed us with a granddaughter, and grandson. Although she has been juggling the demand of two toddlers, she still manages to find some time to apprentice with me in the weaving studio or crank out a knitted handcrafted piece here and there. When available, they will also be listed for sale.
Note: It is important to understand that all alpaca yarn is NOT alike. While all alpaca fiber has the same basic characteristics and thermal structure, it is as unique and variable in quality as alpacas are themselves. Let's face it, some alpacas just don't play well with others and have to be handled with kid gloves and it's no different for alpaca fiber and yarn. Some yarns are just not suitable to withstand the tension of a loom. Those yarns are better left to the craftsmanship of knitting and crocheting your piece rather than exceed the boundaries of the yarn.
We require samples of alpaca yarn you are interested in using before we can fully commit to commission and pricing.
While we do specialize in huacaya and suri alpaca handwovens at Kush Kuntry, we do not limit ourselves only to alpaca. We love working with all natural fibers and blends. You will find several of our recent designs by clicking on the "Handwovens for Sale" tab to the right.
